Anti-transgender legislation
Since the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of gay marriage, right-wing groups have shifted their targets towards transgender people.
First, a wave of bathroom bills popped up around the country, and were subsequently squashed due to public outcry and protestations by some corporations and sporting teams.
In 2021 and 2022, terrible record-setting waves of bills targeting trans children have cropped up, and have been passing with frightening regularity.
Sports bills
Bills preventing trans youths (particularly trans girls) from participating in gender-segregated sports matching their gender identity
Healthcare bills
Bills barring and even criminalizing therapy, medical care, and social transitioning of transgender youths.
"Don't Say Gay" bills
Bills restricting discussion of LGBTQ+ topics and the affirmation of childrens' gender identities in schools.
